As Bubba from Forrest Gump famously knows, there’s more than one way to cook shrimp. He lists 21 ways to be precise, but he forgot one updated version…Air Fryer Fried Shrimp! This modern twist on a classic gives you all the crispy, golden goodness of deep-fried shrimp without the mess of hot oil. It’s easy, affordable, and completely irresistible. Trust me, this easy fried shrimp recipe deserves a spot as number 22 on Bubba’s list—air fryer shrimp is a total game-changer!

Crispy Fried Shrimp in the Air Fryer

It only takes about 15 minutes to cook two batches of fried shrimp in the air fryer, and they come out perfectly crisp every time. I bread the shrimp in a simple mix of seasoned flour, egg wash, and Italian breadcrumbs, and they become golden and SO satisfying. It’s seriously one of the easiest ways to get your fried shrimp fix without making a big, greasy mess in the kitchen. Dunk these air fryer breaded shrimp in some cocktail sauce, and you’ve got a budget-friendly appetizer that still feels like a total treat!

Budget-Saving Tip

I was lucky to purchase the shrimp for this recipe with my Kroger membership and saved $1.01. The shrimp were originally $5.00, but I got them for $3.99! It’s worth checking the weekly deals, memberships, or loyalty programs at your local stores, because little savings like this really add up!

Total Time 31 minutes
Servings 2 servings (~11 shrimp per person)
Calories 490kcal

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • 4 Mixing Bowls

Ingredients

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour 60g, $0.16
  • 1 Tbsp Old Bay seasoning $0.35
  • 1 tsp garlic powder $0.06
  • 1 tsp dried parsley $0.05
  • ½ tsp black pepper freshly cracked, $0.08
  • 1 egg beaten, $0.33*
  • 1 Tbsp water $0.00
  • 1 cup Italian breadcrumbs 30g, $0.33**
  • cooking spray $0.01
  • 10 oz. frozen shrimp large, thawed, (31-40 per lb., 283g) $3.99***

Instructions

  • Gather and prepare all ingredients.
  • Grab 4 medium bowls or shallow dishes. In the first bowl, combine the flour, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, dried parsley, and pepper. In the second bowl, whisk together the egg and 1 Tbsp of water. In the third bowl, add the breadcrumbs. The last bowl will be for placing the breaded shrimp.
  • Toss the thawed shrimp in the flour, coating all sides, then dip in the egg mixture to completely cover. Lastly, press the shrimp into breadcrumbs on both sides. Work in batches if needed, and place breaded shrimp in the final bowl until ready to air fry.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Arrange the breaded shrimp in a single layer. You will have to work in batches. Spray with nonstick spray and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  • Using tongs, carefully flip and spray the shrimp again, then cook for another 3-4 minutes.
  • Remove the fried shrimp and repeat the process until all the shrimp are done.

Notes

*The amount of egg wash was perfect for the number of shrimp I had. If you get more shrimp or larger shrimp, you may need more.
**Instead of Italian breadcrumbs, you can use regular breadcrumbs or panko breadcrumbs.
***I used frozen large peeled and deveined shrimp (31-40 per lb, with about 20-22 shrimp total in a 10 oz bag), which I thawed myself. Fresh shrimp will also work. You can thaw the shrimp in a few ways. I like to place them in the refrigerator and let them thaw overnight. You can also run them under cold water for about 10 minutes. Never thaw them on the countertop, in the microwave, or under hot water.

The ingredients to make air fryer fried shrimp.

Gather all of your ingredients.

A bowl of flour, a bowl of beaten egg, a bowl of breadcrumbs, and an empty bowl.

Prepare the breading station: Grab 4 medium-sized bowls or shallow dishes. In the first bowl (top left), add ½ cup flour, 1 Tbsp Old Bay seasoning, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp dried parsley, and ½ tsp black pepper. Mix to combine. Then in the second bowl (top right), beat 1 egg with 1 Tbsp water. Pour 1 cup Italian breadcrumbs into a third bowl (bottom left). Leave the last bowl empty.

Raw shrimp being dipped in flour, then eff, then breadcrumbs,

Bread the shrimp: Toss 10 oz. large shrimp (thawed) in the flour mixture, making sure to coat all sides. Then dip the flour-coated shrimp in the egg wash, then into the breadcrumbs. Press the shrimp into the breadcrumbs on both sides. Place the breaded shrimp in the empty bowl and repeat until all shrimp are coated.

Recipe Success Tips!

  1. I use large shrimp (31–40 per pound), and they cook up perfectly in 6–8 minutes per batch. You can use any size shrimp you like, but keep in mind that smaller shrimp will cook faster, while larger shrimp may take a little longer. Air fryer fried shrimp is fully cooked once the breading is golden and crispy, and the shrimp inside are opaque and firm to the touch (with a 145°F internal temp on a meat thermometer).
  2. Preheat the air fryer. I preheated my air fryer for a few minutes to help the breading get crispy right from the start.
  3. Cook your fried shrimp in batches! I cooked mine in two batches, keeping them in a single layer so the breading got extra crispy. Each batch took about 6–8 minutes, so I had two servings of perfectly golden shrimp in 16 minutes total.
  4. Flip your air fried breaded shrimp over halfway through cooking for even crispness all over!
  5. You can use frozen or fresh shrimp, with the tail on or off. I went with frozen tail-off shrimp, which I thawed myself following the package directions. My shrimp was also already peeled and deveined for convenience. If you pick up shell-on shrimp, you’ll have to peel and devein them yourself.
  6. I went with coastal classic flavors on the shrimp seasoning and chose Old Bay, but have fun, and raid your cabinets and season with what you have on hand! Cajun seasoning, lemon pepper, or a smoky chipotle powder would be delicious twists!

Serving Suggestions

I go straight for my homemade cocktail sauce whenever I make this shrimp recipe…it’s the BEST dip for crispy fried shrimp (in my opinion 🙂). But a tartar sauce would be just as tasty if that’s more your style. You can also skip the dip and serve the shrimp right on top of a crisp Caesar salad, or toss them into a simple pasta like spaghetti aglio e olio. Or use them to make a shrimp po’ boy, piled high on a toasted roll with lettuce, tomato, and remoulade sauce!

Storage & Reheating

These air fryer fried shrimp are definitely at their best fresh, when the breading is super crispy and the shrimp are cooked just right. If you do have leftovers, stash them in the fridge for 2-3 days in an airtight container. When you’re ready to reheat, pop them back in the air fryer for about 5 minutes, flipping halfway, until they’re hot and crispy again and the internal temp reaches 165°F. Just be careful not to overdo it since shrimp can dry out fast.

In my opinion, there’s truly no comparison when it comes to aromatic in-season zucchini and wrapped-in-plastic off-season zucchini. The earthy aroma is one of my favorite characteristics of fresh zucchini… the next time you pick one up that’s super fresh, give it a sniff! They smell like summer, and I can’t get enough of it. However, I can’t deny that one of the best things about zucchini is we can get it year-round for a decent price. So whether you’re making this super easy (and fast!) Air Fryer Zucchini in the heat of the summertime or the depths of a harsh winter, it’s an enjoyable and healthy side dish no matter what.

Easy Recipe for Air Fryer Zucchini

Whenever I make zucchini in the air fryer, I aim for that balance of crisp on the outside and deliciously juicy on the inside. I prefer to use small zucchini (larger ones can be extra watery, so make sure to remove the seeds if yours are on the bigger side!), and I wait until just before cooking to add salt. That way, the salt doesn’t draw out moisture too early, making the zucchini soggy. I also add a quick coating of garlic powder, mayo, and Dijon to help the breadcrumbs and Parmesan stick, which crisps up in the air fryer and adds big flavor without a ton of effort. Not bad for a handful of pantry staples and a few zucchini!

Recipe Success Tips & Suggestions

  1. After you wash the zucchini, make sure to dry it really well. Zucchini is around 90% water, so any extra moisture hanging around can lead to soggy spears instead of crispy ones! It’ll also make it harder for the garlic mayo mustard to stick if they’re still wet from washing.
  2. Cook in batches. Overcrowding your air fryer basket with the zucchini can make them steam instead of air fry (another common cause of soggy air-fried zucchini!). I lay my spears in a single layer and cook in batches depending on the size of the air fryer basket.
  3. Remove the seeds from the larger zucchini. The bigger the zucchini, the more likely it is to have a spongy, seedy center that holds a lot of water. Scooping those out helps everything cook more evenly and keeps your spears from going mushy.
  4. Cut them into rounds or quarters. I love a baked zucchini fry, but you really can’t beat the convenience of an air fryer. I usually slice my zucchini into spears to make air-fried zucchini fries, but rounds or quarters work great, too. Just keep in mind they’ll cook faster the thinner you slice them. No matter the shape, don’t forget to shake the basket halfway through so everything crisps up evenly.
  5. Make them vegan or gluten-free. Try swapping the mayo for vegan mayo and the grated Parmesan for nutritional yeast (or your favorite vegan parmesan alternative). This recipe should also work well with gluten-free panko breadcrumbs.

Serving Suggestions

I like to serve my air fried zucchini with something delicious to dip them in. Mayo, ketchup, remoulade sauce (see my shrimp po’boys for the recipe), or garlic aioli are my top choices.

These zucchini also work well as an easy side dish when you don’t feel like plain old boiled veggies! My cauliflower steaks with a side of stewed tomatoes and okra and air fryer zucchini would make a veggie-packed plate that’s hearty, summery, and colorful. You can also tuck the zucchini into wraps, serve it alongside a chicken club sandwich, or a simple pasta dish like spaghetti aglio e olio.

Storage & Reheating

This recipe is best served fresh since the breading and zucchini will soften as it sits. If you do have leftovers, store them once cooled in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2-3 days. Pop them back in the air fryer for a few minutes at 350°F to help bring back some of the crispiness before serving.

Raise your hand if you always fill up on chips and salsa at the Mexican restaurant before your entrée arrives. Guilty as charged! But no matter how many bags of store-bought chips I’ve bought to recreate that vibe at home, they never hit the same and always feel like a splurge. So that’s why these Air Fryer Tortilla Chips are my go-to now. They taste just as good as restaurant-style chips but are made with just 3 ingredients, are totally budget-friendly, and I can season them any way I like.

Any time I can ditch the deep fryer and still get that same crave-worthy crunch, I’m all in. These crispy air-fried corn tortilla chips cook up in minutes, store well for easy snacking, and are a super budget-friendly way to use leftover corn tortillas (say, from our chipotle chicken tacos recipe!). I keep the seasoning simple with just salt, but you can totally make them your own. And if you don’t have an air fryer, no worries! Our oven-baked tortilla chips are just as easy and delicious.

SeasonING iDEAS!

You can season these air fryer corn chips in any way you like. Sprinkle over a little paprika, chili powder, or any seasoning you have in your pantry before air frying for a flavor boost, or try one of the blends I’ve listed here. Don’t forget to spray with the cooking spray first, and use as much or as little seasoning as you like!

  • Seasoning salt: This is a super easy way to add flavor to your homemade corn tortilla chips. We like Tony Chachere’s here at Budget Bytes, but you can use any premixed seasoning salt blend you love.
  • Cinnamon sugar: Sprinkle 1 Tbsp of sugar and ¾ tsp ground cinnamon over your cut tortillas.
  • Ranch seasoning: Use 1 to 1 ½ tsp of store-bought ranch seasoning, or try our homemade ranch mix.
  • Cajun seasoning: If you like a little spice, try 1 to 1 ½ tsp of Cajun seasoning for a little kick! Either store-bought or homemade Cajun seasoning will work fine.
  • Homemade ‘Doritos’ blend: If you love Doritos but don’t love the price tag, try this seasoning blend—1 ½ tsp salt, ¼ cup nutritional yeast, ½ tsp chili powder, ¼ tsp cayenne pepper, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp cumin, ½ tsp sweet paprika, 1 tsp smoked paprika, and a pinch of sugar.

Serving Suggestions

  • Crumble over soups, chili, or salads for an easy, crunchy topping
  • Scoop up black bean dip (because homemade chips and homemade dip? That’s a snack win).
  • Serve with guacamole or fresh pico de gallo for a classic pairing
  • Use them to make chilaquiles
  • Add to a crudités platter with carrot sticks, celery, and hummus
  • Dunk them into my street corn salad
  • Make just about any nacho dish you like! Try our chicken nachos or pile ’em high with whatever you’ve got in the fridge
  • Snack on them plain and call it a day!

Storage & Reheating

Once your air fryer tortilla chips are completely cool, store them in an airtight container or zip-top bag at room temperature. They’ll stay crisp for about 5-7 days. If they start to lose a little crunch, you can pop them back in the air fryer at 350°F for a minute or two to crisp them back up. Just be sure not to seal them while they’re still warm, or they’ll trap moisture and turn soggy.

Confession time: I made these Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs out of lazy desperation one day in the studio when I was testing other recipes. I was starving but didn’t want to eat anything super processed, so I decided to try cooking some of my farm-fresh eggs from home in the air fryer. I’ve used this method tons of times now, and they come out perfect every time! If your stove is occupied, or if you can’t be bothered to wait for a pot of water to boil, this kitchen hack is a game-changer!

Overhead view of air fryer hard boiled eggs.

On my farm, we have 5 hens, with 5 more on the way! We have some fun breeds that lay every color egg, from dark brown and pink to blue and olive. Did you know the color of eggshells is dictated by the breed of chicken laying them, but the depth of color of the yolk is determined by the chicken’s diet? Pretty cool, huh? So, you can only imagine how many eggs we go through in a week!

While making hard-boiled eggs on the stove is a fairly simple process, it can be hands-on and requires constant attention. But with this air fryer method, I can press a button and walk away until the timer goes off. It’s so easy, so simple, and the eggs always come out perfectly hard ‘boiled!’

Notes

I like to prepare an ice bath (a bowl filled with cold water and ice) while my eggs are cooking. As soon as the timer goes off, I transfer the eggs to the ice bath and let them cool for a few minutes.
The total cook time can depend on the size of your eggs, the starting temperature of your eggs, and your air fryer. I specifically use large chicken eggs that are cold from the fridge. If you use room-temperature eggs or eggs that are a different size, you’ll likely have to adjust the cooking time to account for this.
If you want soft boiled eggs, try reducing the cooking time by a few minutes.

Six eggs in an air fryer.

Preheat your air fryer to 250°F. Once it’s preheated, carefully place as many eggs as you like into the air fryer basket. Be sure not to overcrowd the basket. I used 6 eggs. Air fryers work by circulating hot air, so you want to make sure there is enough room for the air to circulate around each egg.

When I’m on a tight budget, chicken drumsticks are usually my go-to for dinner. They’re inexpensive and can easily be purchased in small quantities or in a large package. Air Fryer Chicken Drumsticks are, however, a new favorite of mine. Not only do they cook perfectly in the air fryer, but the skin also gets a tad bit crispy, which I love. Add this recipe to your rotation when you need a quick meal on those busy weeknights!😉

Overhead view of air fried chicken drumsticks in an air fryer basket.

This recipe is very similar to our Baked Chicken Drumsticks recipe, except it cooks in almost half the time it takes to bake in an oven. I also used the same spice seasoning blend minus the cayenne pepper, but feel free to keep the cayenne in if you like a little heat. I love using my air fryer where possible, especially if my oven is already in use. Not to mention, it can work out much cheaper than using the oven. This means I can make my family’s favorite chicken drumsticks in less time AND save a bit of money in the process!

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make chicken drumsticks in the air fryer:

  • Chicken Drumsticks: I went for drumsticks with the bone-in and skin-on. Chicken drumsticks are different from chicken leg quarters, as the legs include both the drumstick and the thigh. If you prefer thigh meat over drumsticks, I recommend you check out our recipe for air fryer chicken thighs instead!
  • Olive Oil: Just a bit to coat the chicken and help with browning.
  • Seasonings: I used a combination of smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper for a classic flavor profile. You can also add in a sprinkle of cayenne pepper if desired.

Seasoning Variations to Try

I like the simple mix of seasonings I use on these air fryer chicken drumsticks. It’s just enough to add flavor without overpowering the natural taste of the chicken. But you can easily switch the seasonings or use a pre-made mix for a different taste! Here are some ideas I think you’ll love:

Money Saving Ideas!

The bigger 4-5 lbs. packs of chicken drumsticks can work out cheaper per piece than the 1-2 lbs. packs. If you have the freezer space, go for the larger pack and split it into smaller portions for later use. Or, to save even more money, buy a pack of FROZEN chicken drumsticks and thaw them in the fridge overnight before using. Frozen is often cheaper than fresh, and the chicken will still turn out great in the air fryer! I recommend patting them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture before air frying.

Recipe Success Tips

  1. Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. My air fryer was big enough to fit in 5 drumsticks without any overlapping. If you have a smaller air fryer, you might need to cook in batches.
  2. Preheat your air fryer! You wouldn’t use your oven without preheating it (I hope!!), and the same concept applies to your air fryer. Preheating ensures that your food cooks evenly and at the right temperature.
  3. Check your chicken is done using a meat thermometer. Chicken drumsticks are safe to eat once the internal temperature reaches 165°F, but bone-in dark meat is best cooked to a slightly higher temperature. I try and aim for 175°F. This ensures that the meat is cooked through and any connective tissue has had a chance to break down, making the chicken extra tender and juicy. Be careful not to hit the bone with the thermometer, as it can give an inaccurate reading.

Serving Suggestions

All together, these easy air fryer chicken drumsticks are a super simple way to prepare chicken legs for those busy weeknights. I served mine with a simple side salad as a quick and healthy dinner option. But I think they’d be delicious served with mac and cheese, steamed veggies, or even potato salad (perfect for a picnic!). My family also likes it when I serve them with a dipping sauce. BBQ sauce is our favorite!

Storage & Reheating

Once cooled, leftover air fryer chicken drumsticks can be stored in an airtight container for 3-4 days or frozen for 2-3 months. Be sure to let them thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating. I’d pop them back into the air fryer preheated to 360ºF, or the recommended setting for your specific air fryer, until heated through.

Looking for an easy side dish to add to your dinner plate this week? Well, don’t overlook these simple, no-fuss, Air Fryer Baked Potatoes. Baked potatoes are a classic comfort food that’s budget-friendly and easy to customize with your favorite toppings. And I absolutely love cooking them in the air fryer. The potato skins get nice and crispy thanks to the air fryer and the potato flesh on the inside is perfectly soft & fluffy. Keep things simple with a little bit of butter, salt, and pepper or try out some of our favorite topping ideas listed below!

Which is Faster: Oven or Air Fryer?

You may be wondering which cooking method is faster for baking potatoes, the oven or the air fryer? From my experience the air fryer is just a little bit faster than the oven, about 10 minutes faster, depending on how soft you like your potatoes to be. But here are some other great benefits to baking potatoes in the air fryer:

  • Using the air fryer to bake potatoes keeps you from heating up your entire kitchen with a super hot oven.
  • I also noticed the potato skin was crispier in the air fryer compared to the oven. And who doesn’t love a crispy potato skin!
  • If you’re making multiple dishes for dinner, it frees up your oven to cook other things.
  • And I was surprised to notice that the potato flesh on the inside was a lot fluffier and softer compared to the inside of an oven-baked potato.

Because of the super fluffy potato texture and the slightly shorter cook time, this is now my new favorite way to cook easy baked potatoes!😊

How Long To Cook Potatoes In The Air Fryer?

The cook times for air fryer baked potatoes will depend on the size of your potatoes and how tender you would like them to be. I like for my potatoes to be very tender and easily pierced with a fork or knife with no resistance. When air frying at 400°F, a ½ pound potato will take about 40-45 minutes for a soft inside texture. Larger potatoes will take slightly longer to cook.

Should I Wrap My Potato In Foil?

There’s actually no need to wrap your potatoes in foil when cooking them in the air fryer. You can simply air fry the potatoes uncovered, brushed with oil, and sprinkled with salt to get a nice crispy skin.

Baked Potato Topping Ideas

I was tempted to stuff these potatoes similar to my twice baked potatoes that I loveee, but I said to myself, “let me not get too carried away!” But just know if you wanted to take a few extra minutes to make some air fryer bacon while your potatoes are cooling off…you won’t regret it! Here are a few more great options to choose from:

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 2 7-oz. pieces Atlantic salmon, skin on; thawed if frozen* $8.41
  • cooking spray $0.05
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce $0.06
  • ¼ cup brown sugar $0.17
  • ½ tsp freshly cracked black pepper $0.03
  • ½ tsp garlic powder $0.07

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F. If using frozen salmon, allow it to thaw in the refrigerator before cooking. We are cooking salmon from a fresh or fully thawed state in this recipe.
  • Gather marinade ingredients: soy sauce, brown sugar, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Spoon the marinade mixture over the salmon filets, gently rubbing it onto the salmon until it’s fully coated. A little extra on top is great! The brown sugar will melt during cooking and caramelize, giving your salmon a beautiful color and sweetness.
  • Spray your salmon and your air fryer crisper plate with your cooking oil of choice and position the salmon skin side down in your air fryer. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may have to do this in batches. If you are dividing bigger salmon filets into smaller portions, it’s easiest to do so once it’s fully cooked unless you have a sharp knife that can get through the skin with ease when they are raw.
  • Air fry for 7-8 minutes to start. At the halfway mark, baste your salmon with more marinade and then continue cooking. The cook time for your salmon will vary depending on the thickness of each piece. For a thinner piece of salmon, plan on 7-8 minutes. For a thicker piece, air fry for 9-10 minutes. Fork test your salmon to make sure it’s done to your liking (flaky and delicious!) If it needs more time, you can put it back in for 1-2 minutes.

This budget-friendly protein-packed tofu is begging to be the center of attention at your dinner table. If you’re looking to fire up a Meatless Monday tradition, or you’ve been on the tofu train for a long time, this Air Fryer Tofu is super easy and tastes great. I toss extra firm tofu in a simple soy sauce marinade and then drizzle with honey, sesame seeds, and green onions after it’s crisped up in the air fryer. The texture comes out perfect and the flavor profile is an easy hit with tofu experts and novices alike!

air fryer tofu on a white plate with a bowl of sweet chili dipping sauce.

I remember when my relationship with tofu first started about 20 years ago. Tofu could be found in a big bucket of water in the bottom of a cooler at the health food store, and I had to fish it out with tongs. I remember thinking, “What IS this stuff?!” The various options for firm, extra firm, soft, or silken were hard to come by back then, but now tofu is experiencing a much-deserved Renaissance!

You can find tofu everywhere– and the variety! (Swoon.) Already marinated, soft, extra firm, cut into chicken-like shapes, you name it. Even your local Walmart or Aldi probably has it. We don’t have to break the bank at luxury grocery stores to find it any longer and thank goodness that container full of tofu and water is a thing of the past.

What is Air Fryer Tofu?

Delightfully crispy on the outside with a delightfully chewy center, this Air Fryer Tofu is good enough to convert anyone into a tofu lover. The freezing step of the tofu is one you won’t want to skip! It gives it a dense texture that holds up great with all kinds of sauces. I attempted many different recipes for Air Fryer Tofu, trying to keep things as easy and inexpensive as possible. This recipe yielded the best result every time!

You can add whatever herbs or seasonings you like to this recipe, but the soy sauce and sesame oil are keepers; they add umami and savory notes to otherwise bland tofu. Tofu is so versatile and easy to add flavor to with whatever marinade ingredients you like best.

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make crispy air fryer tofu:

  • Extra Firm Tofu: This type of tofu holds up best to air frying. It holds its shape well, and it has a chewier texture than firm or regular tofu.
  • Soy Sauce: Adds tons of umami flavor to the tofu.
  • Sesame Oil: Adds a hint of nuttiness to the tofu and helps it brown in the air fryer.
  • Cornstarch: Absorbs excess moisture to create a super crispy coating. My recipe calls for much less than other recipes I have seen and this helps the texture big time!
  • Honey: Adds a touch of sweetness!
  • Sesame Seeds: Add a great crunch to the tofu.
  • Green Onion: Adds a pop of fresh onion flavor.

Serving Suggestions

My favorite way to serve this crispy air fryer tofu is over this delicious coconut rice! The slightly sweet and nutty flavor pairs so well with the savory, crispy tofu! For dipping, I love this sweet chili sauce (pictured) or homemade sweet and sour sauce.

Tips and Notes

  • Extra firm or super firm tofu works best. Firm tofu will also work, but the texture won’t be quite as dense. I do not recommend regular or silken tofu for this recipe, as neither holds up well.
  • Don’t skip freezing the tofu! It creates a denser, spongier texture that has a meatier chew.
  • If you like your tofu crunchier (and less chewy), you can press it between clean kitchen towels using a tofu press, a stack of books, or a heavy pan for 30-60 minutes to remove excess moisture.

I’m on a roll with these air fryer recipes y’all! And since I loved how well my air fryer chicken nuggets turned out, I wanted to try some air fryer chicken tenders next. This time I combined panko and regular breadcrumbs for the perfect texture and I used chicken breast tenderloins to make things super easy. They’re perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and a lot fresher than frozen chicken tenders! So get your favorite dipping sauce ready, because these air fryer chicken tenders are perfect for a quick & easy lunch or dinner meal.

Notes

*I like purchasing the chicken that is already cut into tenders or tenderloins. But you can also make your own tenders by cutting a boneless, skinless chicken breast lengthwise into strips.
**You can also use buttermilk instead of eggs like we did for these air fryer chicken nuggets.
***I used a combination of panko breadcrumbs and regular breadcrumbs. The regular breadcrumbs are finer in texture and provide a more even coating. The panko breadcrumbs give the tenders that crispy crunch that I love. Combined they provide the perfect balance.

This Air Fryer Asparagus might be the easiest recipe I’ve ever developed, and you know what? I’m not mad about it! Sometimes the simplest method truly is the best, and this crispy asparagus is proof of that. It takes less than 10 minutes from start to finish, and it’ll change the way you think about this sometimes polarizing veggie. Did you know asparagus takes 3 YEARS to fully mature so it looks and tastes the way you see it at the grocery store?! For that reason alone, let’s respect this ingredient, keep it simple, and truly let its flavor shine!

Ingredients for Air Fryer Asparagus

Here’s what you’ll need to make air fryer asparagus:

  • Asparagus: I never have trouble finding a bunch at my local grocery store. However, prices can vary throughout the year, so take advantage of them while they are in season and sometimes on sale. Asparagus is in season during the spring and early summer from the end of March through late May or early June.
  • Olive Oil: Olive oil helps keep the asparagus spears from burning. It also helps to evenly distribute the seasonings.
  • Seasoning: A mix of garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper adds just a touch of flavor that pairs well with just about any meal.
  • Lemon: A squeeze of fresh lemon juice (totally optional) adds a pop of freshness!

What Else Can I Add to Air Fryer Asparagus?

I love the simplicity of salt, pepper, and garlic powder, but feel free to get creative. Try:

Tips for Making Air Fryer Asparagus

  • Trim only the bottom 1/2-1 inch of the asparagus spears. These woody ends are tough and can be unpleasant to eat. Some people like to use a vegetable peeler to peel off the skin at the bottom. I find that method works often, but the ends are usually still too tough for my liking.
  • Try to leave a bit of space between the spears so they crisp up rather than steaming. You may want to cook the asparagus in batches.
  • Don’t overcook the asparagus. Overcooked asparagus will go limp and soggy and turn a greyish color. When cooked asparagus turns a brilliant bright green, that typically means it’s done!
  • Serve this asparagus as soon as it has finished cooking for the best taste and crisp texture.

What to Serve with Air Fryer ASparagus

This crispy asparagus goes so well with simple, wholesome meals like Parmesan Risotto, Chicken Cordon Bleu, or Honey Sriracha Tofu. It would also go well with baked proteins, like our baked chicken drumsticks!
